On behalf of the IDTANA-Southern Region, we would like to congratulate all of the dancers who represented not only their schools, but the Southern Region at the 2013 World Irish Dance Championships in Boston. As a region, we had our most successful year in the number of solo dancers and teams who recalled. Seven dancers are coming back to their Southern Region schools at World Medal Holders. We also send big congratulations to the Watters School, the 2013 World Champions in the Dance Drama competition. The 2013 Southern Region Oireachtas will be held 6-8 December 2013 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD 20745. The hotel block for attendees will open on February 15, 2013.
At the time of booking a one night, non refundable deposit will be charged. Room rates for the general public are $149.00 per night. There is a reduced self parking rate of $12 per day.

The application forms for the 2013 IDTANA scholarships are now available on the IDTANA website. Applications are due by December 20, 2012.
Room reservation requests for the 2012 Southern Region Oireachtas will open at 12:00 a.m. EST on Sunday, March 11, 2012. To book a room at the Marriott New Orleans via the internet, please follow the link below. Per the Marriott website, all reservations requests will require a credit card guarantee, and a one night non-refundable deposit at the time of the reservation. For attendees, no booking code is required. Rooms are $130 per night.

Our friend and fellow IDTANA-Southern Region member Maureen Harling Welty, ADCRG, passed away on Monday night, May 2, 2011, after a long and courageous battle. Our thoughts and prayers are with Maureen's husband Scott, her family and friends, and the Harling Irish dance families. Memorial services will be held in Florida and Chicago at a later date. Information will be posted here on the services when it becomes available.

From Regional Director Judy McCafferty, ADCRG: Earlier today, I received correspondence from Sean MacDonnchada, Chairman of An Coimisiun, regarding associations.
Three schools in the Southern Region, the Walsh-Kelley School, Rince na hEireann and the Culkin School, are precluded from participation in the World Championships 2011 due to Association/Relationship Rulings. Their World Qualifiers will have automatic qualification for the 2012 Championships, provided they participate in their relevant qualifying event in 2011.
As a result, additional qualifiers will represent the Southern Region at the 2011 World Championships. The additional qualifiers are:
