The IDTANA-SR Executive Committee would like to remind
all teachers and dancers in the region that the An Coimisuin ban on "triple clicks" is still in effect. Per page 17 of the CLRG "Rules for Dancing" issued in 2007,
Rule 4.1.1 “Steps must not include “triple clicks” or clicks of an order higher than triple.”
A reminder on this rule will be forwarded to all members of the Southern Region Oireachtas adjudication panels.
The Nation's Capital Feis is proud to sponsor the unique opportunity of a one day seminar on the TCRG & ADCRG exams,
Sunday July 26, 2009 with instructor Russell Beaton, TCRG, ADCRG. The seminar will take place at the Sheraton National hotel and will commence at 8:AM and conclude at 2:PM with a one hour break for lunch. The cost is $125 per person.

With some recent changes we've made to the website, we've moved the Southern Region Oireachtas blog to the main site and have added some new features. Follow this link to the new website.
The Southern Region has been selected once again to host teacher certification exams. The exams will be held October 8-11, 2009, in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore region. The location has yet to be determined, but will be hosted near one of the region's three airports.
Information on the exam -- including applications and scheduling information -- is available only from An Coimisuin. Please contact ACLRG directly for details.

In December 2007, the teachers of the Southern Region decided to financially assist 5 of our World Qualifiers with $500 for each dancer, to go towards travel expenses to the World Championships. At the 2008 Oireachtas in Orlando, there were 186 World Qualifiers and the dancers' names were drawn randomly. The winners and their respective schools are:
- Christopher Parsons, Tir na Greine
- Isabel Mendosa, Drake
- Meghan Grendzier, Drake
- Christopher Johnson, Broesler
- Emma Hoagland, Nashville Irish Step Dancers
This is the second year for the $500 dance stipend and we plan to continue this World Qualifier stipend every year and aid more dancers in attending the prestigious World Championships in representing the Southern Region and North America.
Congratulations to these dancers and best wishes to all Southern Region dancers and teachers who will be representing our region in Philadelphia.

On behalf of the IDTANA-Southern Region executive committee, I would like to thank all of those individuals who dedicated so much time over the last year to making the 2008 Southern Region Oireachtas a success. Congratulations also go to the dancers who have qualified to represent the Southern Region at the 2009 Oireachtas Rince Na Cruinne in Philadelphia this coming April, as well as those who qualified to attend the North American Irish Dance Championships in Nashville in July. Due to a scoring error that was discovered upon review of the 2007 Southern Region Oireachtas results, corrected results have been issued in several team competitions. The scoring error occured in tabulations where placements were not converted to the 100-point system and instead were based on raw scores. The retabulation did not change the overall results, however, some teams received higher placements, including several who were not recognized at the awards cermonies. More...
Congratulations to Southern Region members Michael O'Hara and Myra Watters on passing the ADCRG certification exam. This rigorous examination qualifies both to serve as judges at competitions. Congratulations the four newest teachers in the Southern Region: Katie Cox, TMRF, with the Nashville Irish Step Dancers; Brent Wood, TCRG, and Myriam, Patino, TCRG, with the Drake School; and Megan Howard, TCRG, with the Culkin School.
